Obituary for Joyce Czepiel Pike

Joyce (Czepiel) “Bobki” Pike, 78, of Enfield, beloved wife of Charles B. Pike Jr. “Pops” for 57 years, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday April 25, 2018, at St Francis Hospital. The Daughter of the late Matthew Czepiel and Stella (Hydar) Czepiel, Joyce was born and raised in Bridgeport, CT. She later moved to Manchester and then to Enfield where she resided for the remainder of her years.

There were several things that brought joy to Joyce’s life. She loved activities such as water skiing and bowling with her friends. She loved spending days at the cottage with family and later going on vacations with her Husband including several cruises and yearly trips to Cape Cod. Joyce loved animals and could always be seen with a furry companion at her side. Some of Joyce’s hobbies included ceramics as well as knitting and crocheting...evidenced by all of the afghans, sweaters and scarfs that were given out to family and friends over the years. Her knitting became a passion and led to Joyce donating items to children in hospitals. Joyce absolutely loved children which led her to working in daycare as well as donating her time as a girl scout leader. Joyce loved to entertain and bring joy to others. She loved playing cards with friends and hosting backyard cookouts and spending time enjoying the pool. Her door was always open, and once you met her, you would never forget her. Joyce was also a devoted patron of St John’s Polish National Catholic Church and Holy Cross Polish National Catholic Church where she was very active serving on the committees and sang in the choir. Joyce was a friend of Bill W for 45 years and a former committee member for Feingold.

Joyce will be remembered for many things, the sparkle in her eyes and a smile that could light up a room. Her amazing sense of humor and contagious laugh. Her never yielding courage and strength. Her love, compassion, kindness, generosity and wisdom. Most of all, her undying love and devotion to her family...most of all her 57 year love story with her husband.

In addition to her loving husband, Joyce is survived by her children, Charles M. Pike of Enfield, Carey A. Thayer of Stafford Springs, and Jeffrey W. Pike of Hebron; her grandchildren, Zachary and Cameron Thayer, Veronica Pike , Delaney and Nathan Pike, and Jessica Pike; her great grandchildren, Angelina and Anthony; and her sister, Carol C. Morrison and her husband Ray of West Haven. She is also survived by a loving group of extended family that meant so much to Joyce and her family; Kelly, Stacey and Kathi as well as a marvelous and devoted group of caregivers for their wonderful care and support. She was predeceased by a daughter, Eileen Anne Pike, and a son Dana Andrew Pike.

Joyce’s family will receive relatives and friends for visitation from 4-7 p.m. Monday, April 30, 2018 at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd, Enfield, CT. The procession will form at 10 a.m. on Tuesday May 1, 2018 at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, for an 11 a.m. Funeral Mass to be celebrated at Holy Cross Polish National Church in Enfield. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Polish National Catholic Cemetery. Donations in Joyce's memory may be made to the American Diabetes Assn., 2080 Silas Deane Hwy, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
