Obituary for Michael F. "Dziadz" Dziadzio

Michael Francis Dziadzio (“Dziadz”), 65, of Enfield, CT, passed away unexpectedly on March 2, 2018 while vacationing in one of his favorite places on earth, Myrtle Beach, SC.

Mike was born on April 24, 1952 in Adams, MA, where he was raised in a large extended Polish-American family. He loved to tell repetitive stories about growing up in Adams and his adventures in Polish school. In high school, he played basketball under his beloved Coach Mularczyk, and to him the golden rule of basketball was the “ball-you-man” theory of defense.

After graduating from North Adams State, he received his Master’s Degree in Forestry from NC State. During his time in NC, he met the love of his life, Angie Cato. He wooed her with such lines as “my, you have a lot of freckles”. During their first kiss, his lens popped out of his glasses. Still, she married him on June 11, 1978 and together they had nearly 40 wonderful years of marriage.

He worked as a forester for the University of Arkansas in Hope, AR. He went on to work in IT for the next 35 years, despite not knowing how to install a printer, leading his family to believe that actually worked for the CIA. He retired from United Healthcare in 2016.

Mike loved the outdoors, including gardening (earning him the nickname “Mr. Green Jeans” from his wife), camping, hiking Mt. Greylock in Adams, and pointing out obscure southern plant species while in the Carolinas. He was an avid Red Sox, Patriots, UCONN, and NC State fan. He taught his daughters the NC State fight song even though they lived in CT. His favorite pastime was supporting his grandchildren in any and all of their endeavors.

Mike loved to travel; he and his wife were fortunate to have many memorable adventures together including all over New England, the Carolinas, Canada, Hawaii, California, Italy, England, France, Scotland, Wales, Austria, Switzerland and too many bus trips to count. He was a New Englander who was a Southerner at heart. He was the founding member and President of the Myrtle Beach Men’s Club. He had a legendary propensity for road rage. He also made the best chocolate chip banana muffins.

In addition to his wife, he now watches over his daughter, Lisa Snow and her husband Chris, his daughter, Heather Petrone and her husband, Rob, his grandchildren, Zachary, Joshua, and Julia Snow, and Isabella and Eli Petrone, to whom he was the most beloved“Grandpa” and “PeePaw”. He is survived by sisters Chris and Marie Dziadzio, of Adams, MA. A special thanks to family members Tommy, Denise, Kathy and Scott, and dear friends, Tim & Elaine Hunt. He was blessed with the support of extended family and friends, near and far. He was predeceased by his parents, Stanley and Monica Dziadzio, who surely are asking him why he is there, so soon.

Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family on Friday, March 9 from 5 pm to7 pm at Leete- Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd, Enfield, A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at 11 am at Holy Family Church, 23 Simon Rd., Enfield the celebrant will be Rev. John Melnick. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, Dziadz would have been thrilled to see some of his personal favorite causes acknowledged: The American Heart Association, the Prostate Cancer Foundation, or the Literacy Volunteers of Greater Hartford.
