Obituary for Sylvio Quagliaroli
Sylvio Quagliaroli, 76, born in Hartford, CT passed at his home on 11/11/17, with Uche, one of his best friends, by his side. He was the son of Sylvio and Florence Quagliaroli and grew up with his two sisters, Mary Halpine and Patricia Collard, in Windsor Locks and West Suffield, CT. In his younger days, while spending time with his family, he enjoyed lawn care, fixing watches, driving in the family’s fields, and fishing with his father.
In 1984, Sylvio became a member of The Greater Enfield Association for Retarded and Handicapped Citizens where he worked in woodworking. That same year he moved into the Elm Street Community Living Arrangement where he enjoyed fishing in the pond in the back of the property and chewing tobacco. In 2004, Sylvio’s mother passed away and Suzanne Butryman, assumed guardianship and has been a caring and constant advocate in Sylvio’s life ever since. In October 2004, he moved from Elm Street CLA to Allied’s Ash Road Community Living Arrangement in South Windsor, CT and remained a beloved member of that CLA family until his passing. There he made many friends, both housemates and staff.
Sylvio attended the Day Support Options at Allied’s Day Program. His favorite activities were people watching, watching old shows on TV, and his solitude. A man of few words, when he would occasionally open up, he would tell staff stories of his younger days, spending time with his uncle in Hartford, having a beer or two. He was the type of man many of us loved. But only a chosen few were loved by Silvio. Some of his best friends and the nicknames he had for them were, James (Steve), Uche (Steve), Cheryl (Susan), Karen (Helen), Kalee (Helen), Deb (Sally), Niecey, Marilyn and Tony. Besides his many family members at Allied Rehab Centers in Enfield, he leaves his roommate and “brother” Ray, roommates Billy, Bobby and Kenny.
We will miss Sylvio’s smile and we were proud to know him. As he begins his new adventure in Heaven, we imagine he is fishing, chewing tobacco, and making friends with the ladies. Rest in peace Sylvio.
Burial will be private.
Donations may be made to Allied Rehab Centers, c/o the Ruth Bonney Fund, 3 Pearson Way, Enfield, CT 06082.
